Software Consulting

We provide expert guidance grounded in years of hands-on experience for clients facing complex software problems or architectural decisions.

We diagnose issues, review the architecture, recommend solutions, and help you make informed technical decisions that align with your business goals.

Our Services

Technical Advisory

King
“Check Before It's Checkmate”

Who it's for:

  • Companies choosing new software that need an independent assessment of the options;
  • Decision-makers who suspect their workflows are unusually slow, costly, or dependent on manual work;
  • Companies facing outages or costly problems they can't resolve on their own;
  • Clients buying or selling a software product, or preparing for a funding round.

What we examine: software suitability, workflows, code quality and technical debt, architecture, infrastructure, security, performance, and the delivery process.

What you receive: a written assessment with findings ranked by business impact, root causes, and recommended improvements, or a comparison of options when choosing software.

Security Review

Queen
“No Weak Squares”

Who it's for:

  • Companies handling sensitive data;
  • Companies whose customers or regulators are starting to ask about security;
  • Products that grew fast and never had an independent security check;
  • Teams that want an outside view before a major release.

What we examine: authentication and access control, data protection, application code, third-party dependencies, infrastructure and cloud configuration, secrets management, and logging.

What you receive: a written report with vulnerabilities ranked by severity and exploitability, and a prioritized remediation plan your team can act on.

  • All code and IP belong to you after each milestone payment.
With free 30-day code warranty

Integration & Automation

Bishop
“Long-Diagonal Vision”

Unlike the Technology Audit, which covers the overall health of the software product, the Architecture Review is deeply focused on the software's ability to handle where the business is going.

Who it's for:

  • Teams that don't know if they should go with a monolith or microservices;
  • Companies whose big data tasks underperform because general programming approaches break down;
  • Teams where every new feature breaks existing logic, and the company pays a fortune for things that normally cost less.

What you receive: a written recommendation on the architecture and technology choices that fit where the business is going, covering the trade-offs of each option so your team can decide with confidence.

Project Rescue

Knight
“The Cavalry Arrives”

Did your developer or agency leave you alone with the project? Is your team struggling to keep up? Is a hard deadline closing in? Is the project falling apart, with every day costing you more? Or maybe you've tried everything and nothing has worked so far?

We respond within the same business day, and a rescue team can be ready in a week or less. Give us a call. Chances are, we can help.

Embedded Consultants

Pawn
“From Pawn to Queen”

Traditionally, IT consultants study a problem, deliver a report or recommendations, and leave. We continue to offer this engagement model, but we recommend going the extra mile: embedding one of our Staff Engineers, Team Leads, or Senior Engineers within your team's meetings and workflow, enabling your organization to acquire our tools, methodologies, and best practices directly.

This knowledge transfer allows your employees and contractors to fill skill gaps quickly and adopt cutting-edge tools and a new mindset right now, so you can keep pace with more advanced competitors, and also fix mistakes and stabilize the codebase before they become tech debt. Basically, you get an upskilling component for your company in addition to the standard consulting work.

How We Work

A transparent, predictable process from first contact to ongoing support

Roadmap

01 – Discovery

We start by listening. Please call us, send an email, or book a video call. We’d like to hear about the project you want to build or the problem you would like to solve, what you’ve tried so far, and any deadlines or budget constraints. If we need to look at your existing project before recommending a direction, we’ll discuss that next step with you.

  • Initial call to discuss your goals and constraints
  • Review of existing systems or requirements

02 – NDA

An NDA is a document designed to protect your ideas, business plans, and any other sensitive information you can’t discuss with everyone.

While the NDA is listed as the second step in this workflow, it can be signed at any point, even before the discovery call. It doesn’t cost you anything, so please feel free to ask for it whenever necessary.

03 – Proposal

After evaluating your requirements, we send you a proposal. Normally, that’s a Master Service Agreement (MSA) plus a Scope of Work (SoW).

The MSA sets out the general terms of how we work together. Each Statement of Work (SoW) then defines the scope, responsibilities, timeline, and pricing for a specific engagement.

The SoW is where we define the project, timeline, budget, acceptance criteria, and everything else not covered by the MSA.

If you decide to give us more work (and why not, we’re quite good at IT), we don’t sign another MSA. We simply sign a new SoW under the same MSA.

04 – Engagement

Once agreed, we get to work.

The SoW sets out what we’ll deliver, the timeline, and our responsibilities. We’ll keep you updated as the work progresses and discuss any issues that could affect delivery.

05 – Delivery

We deliver the work defined in the Statement of Work (SoW) and review it with you against the agreed acceptance criteria. Depending on the engagement, this may include deploying software, handing over code and documentation, or presenting findings and recommendations.

Software Development projects: full code ownership, no licensing or royalties. 30 days of code warranty included.

06 – Support

Support is optional and mainly applies to software development projects rather than advisory engagements.

If you need help after launch or ongoing software maintenance, we can discuss retainer options. You decide whether you’d like us to stay involved after delivery.

  • Ongoing maintenance and bug fixes as needed
  • Flexible support agreements, no long-term lock-in
  • Direct line back to the team that built it
